Using SearchMash instead of Google in Safari on OSX - Andrew Williams (Mon, 03 Mar 2008 23:13:04 +0000)

OK, so having played around with SearchMash for a while I decided to set it as my search engine for Safari.

Not an easy task indeed, but here is the answer, just follow the following simple steps:

  • open a Terminal
  • run "vim /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari" (without the quotes)
  • hit the ":" key to enter command mode

I am Charlie Pace from Lost - Andrew Williams (Sat, 16 Feb 2008 19:04:29 +0000)

It's funny that these quizzes are usually nonsense - but this one totally matches me, freaked me out a little!

You are: Charlie Pace
You almost have two different personalities. You are a good person but have some issues you've been struggling with. You aren't one of the bravest people in the world but you defend what is closest to you. You are willing to fight for

First impressions of the iPhone - Andrew Williams (Wed, 14 Nov 2007 16:05:06 +0000)

OK, so the iPhone is not really new news as it has been out in the 'States for 4 months now but that did not stop UK Apple fanatics from being excited about the UK iPhone launch.

The queue at the official Scottish launch in Edinburgh was only around 30 people at 6:02 when the store opened, and some of them were just there to buy normal mobile phones.

DRM is annoying but not new! - Andrew Williams (Wed, 26 Sep 2007 22:41:49 +0000)

Amazon's new music store has stirred up the DRM arguments again. Sigh …

In the absence of DRM software music can be copied as many times as you wish. Obviously, this should be done within the terms of your contract. This normally means that you can copy it onto CD’s/mini disk/MP3/(or even tape!) for your own use and your own computers.

DRM at its essence is simply a

Apple iPhone... NOT any day now - Andrew Williams (Wed, 19 Sep 2007 20:29:34 +0000)

So, today Apple had their fancy press release and yes, as everyone suspected, it was regarding the iPhone. Are we all psyched? Hardly.

All week they kept us on tender hooks about what was going to be announced. The Apple store in London was going to be kept open late. The store windows had been draped in black. The staff were being given advanced training about an

JavaOne Celebrities - Andrew Williams (Sun, 13 May 2007 03:50:27 +0100)

Hello from San Francisco!

The JavaOne conference went very well indeed. Sonatype managed to meet with all those we had planned and as a bonus we all got a day pass into the pavillion. There was a lot of crazyness there including Java powered robots and submarines but the rest was rather as expected. I got given a cool tshirt from one of the stands that reads

Speed up web development with WebWork - Andrew Williams (Thu, 21 Sep 2006 10:11:01 +0000)

Well another NYCoS event approaches. Later today we head over to Glasgow to rehearse for the last night of the proms. Should be a big event. If you have a TV, switch it on for the performance on Sat eve.

Digimap Rocks On - aje (Tue, 29 Jul 2003 10:22:00 GMT)

Well, after a gruelling 15hr shift at work the other day we got the new Digimap interface up and darn it rocks! If you have an Athens login go check it out at edina.ac.uk/digimap. And for the stress I get some days off :) :) I forgot how cheesy weekday TV was!

Sunglasses - aje (Sun, 27 Jul 2003 01:35:00 GMT)

\o/ my Pince Nez sunglasses arrived today - now I too can look like Morpheus. Need to get the coat next!!! Can't wait to walk down the middle of Princes Street parting the crowds ;)

Digimap Downtime - aje (Fri, 25 Jul 2003 11:01 GMT)

Well, I did it, I survived my first downtime at work. The good news is that everything went as planned. The bad new is that as always Carto was the exception to this rule!!! Mr Anderson may you be forgiven! GRR Anyhow, better fix it up tomorrow and get it live asap.

Hifi Rack - aje (Thu, 24 Jul 2003 22:58:00 GMT)

Did myself a real injury trying to carry a large (flat packed) hifi rack from richer sounds via the picnic basket to work. Later that day I managed to walk all the way home with my bike AND the rack. Ouch. Now it is all set up I am glad I made the effort. You can see it on my new Hi-Fi pages. Sweet tunes man!

Wise words and missing NYCoS - aje (Sun, 20 Jul 2003 22:38:00 GMT)

Boast not of tomorrow; for you know not what any day may bring forth.

For those worried that the software is not clearly linked try www.rectang.com/software. Enjoy and give me some time to fill in all of the content area!

NYCoS - aje (Thu, 03 Jul 2003 11:25:00 GMT)

Wow, what a great course. I have just(ish) returned from the NYCoS course this year having been away for 5 years. Although thoroughly exhausted I had a fantastic time! Thanks to all there for making it want it was and thanks to Chris and all staff for the sucess of the concerts as well.

Graduation - aje (Wed, 18 Jun 2003 23:02:00 GMT)

YAY!!! Graduated. The ceromony rocked. The words spoken were very moving and it was amazing to see all my mates being slapped by a bunnet ;) After that I feel that the work may finally have been rewarded.

Welcoming Feathers - aje (Sun, 15 Jun 2003 01:15 GMT)

It finally happened - the new server arrived. Well, not so much arrived, but was constructed out of the ashes of my previous machines. This beast is now running gentoo and is ready to take on the world. Apologies for any downtime that folk noticed over the last week!

Degree - aje (Sat, 14 Jun 2003 10:47:00 GMT)

GOT MY RESULTS! 2-1, not bad at all, in fact rather reasonable. Pitty that my mark this year did not match the 70% last year! Am I the only one, or does a small number seem like an anti-climax after 4 years work?

Website Skills - aje (Thu, 12 Jun 2003 12:50:00 GMT)

OK - so this site may not be the best in the world, and maybe the one I am working on at www.cadenza.org.uk is nothing too fancy either. However behind the scenes lies the biggest and best online web site management software that a man has ever written in one night!!! Just hope the client can appreciate it - this always seems to be the major problem!

NYCoS Monies - aje (Sat, 07 Jun 2003 22:57:00 GMT)

Bah, as everything was going well I got the nice latter telling me that the course fees for NYCoS this year are now due! ah. On top of two cable bills and the TV licence it looks as though I may be putting off buying that kickass new machine for a while. :(

The *real* end of Uni - aje (Wed, 28 May 2003 2:37:00 GMT)

Dissertation NO MORE - aje (Thu, 22 May 2003 12:27:00 GMT)

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! Well, I cannot begin to say how much of a relief it is to be finished with Uni work. Unfortunately I still have to get ready for the presentation of the project work, but still - hear enough. Sorry all you still working away... see you in the pub tomorrow.

Work goes on - aje (Wed, 21 May 2003 11:09:00 GMT)

Well, as we all know it is difficult to write this damn dissertation. Thankfully today has been a good day for it. Got a collegue from work (Emma) to look over it all which was a lot of help. Between her and Michelle I am starting to belive that the examiners may understand what I am trying to say. Also got boxed code includes working - ROX!

Cadenza Recording - aje (Mon, 19 May 2003 15:54:00 GMT)

Well, this eve found me wasting my time in Chrichton church singing away Ken Johnstons new piece for a recording for the media. The recording went well, but the guilt set in so I ran back to work again :(
